How Electricity is Changing

Renewable energy is rising quickly, but the world’s power mix remains fossil fuel-heavy. Over the past two decades, clean energy sources such as wind and solar power have grown significantly in accessibility signaling a shift towards sustainability. However, the global demand for electricity has grown even faster which leaves fossil fuels to fill the gap.

Much of the rising power demand has come from rapidly developing countries like China and India, where new coal plants are being built alongside wind and solar farms to power meteoric economic growth. Industrialized nations are failing to meet their stated climate change goals because their transition away from fossil fuels is happening much slower than it needs to be.

Even on today’s trajectory, many experts expect that fossil-fueled power will peak globally in the next few years. This is a problem that needs to change.
