Illinois is one of many states throughout the country where the value of your solar installation is exempt from your property taxes. This means that even though installing solar will increase the value of your home, your property taxes will not increase. During your close-out meeting, you will be asked to sign a PTAX-330 form, which Halo will send on your behalf to your county assessor, notifying them of the addition of solar panels to your home.
Solar Renewable Energy Credits, or SRECs, are widely used in energy markets and represent the environmental value of energy generated by solar. With SRECs, the amount of energy sent to the utility grid is tracked, and an SREC is issued when one megawatt-hour of electricity from a solar array is produced. Illinois Shines has set incentive amounts that are paid for RECs produced by solar projects participating in the Program.
Our installation team will take great care to make sure your system is installed properly, however, we know that mistakes can happen. Halo Solar stands behind our work, and because of that we offer a five-year workmanship warranty which covers any issues related to improper installation, including leaks.
Once your solar array has been installed and energized, Halo Solar will provide you with access to an online portal that allows you to monitor your system's production. When something seems off, you and the Halo team will receive an alert, and we will begin working on a solution right away.
When your solar array is installed, you will be required to provide proof of liability insurance to your utility provider, but it is possible that you may need to add your solar panels to your homeowners insurance as well. Every insurance policy is different, so we recommend talking to your insurance provider to understand your unique needs.
Your solar system is automatically eligible under the Investment Tax Credit. Halo Solar will provide all the documentation needed to file with your next years taxes, but, we also recommend consulting with your trusted tax professional to ensure that you are maximizing the effectiveness of this incentive.
Illinois Shines is a state-administered incentive program that was created to support the development of new solar projects. Through this program, Illinois electric utilities provide payments to Approved Vendors in exchange for 15 or 20 years of Renewable Energy Credits, or RECs, generated by a solar project.
